How dry ice blasting works – thermal and mechanical effects
Thermal effect
The extreme cold shock causes coatings, scale or deposits to become brittle. This results in fine cracks, through which the layers break away.
Mechanical effect
The pellets penetrate the cracks and sublimate instantly – with a 700- to 1000-fold increase in volume. This completely dislodges the dirt.
